In fact, they are not similar at all. As described above, masala is a particular mixture of spices used in a dish. For example, a chicken tikka masala or a paneer masala will both use the same spice mix in the recipe.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curry is the entire dish of meat or fish, vegetables, and spices. So, for example, a chicken tikka masala is a curry, and the masala is the blend of spices used in that particular dish. Does that make sense? We thought so!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So what other differences are there between masala and curry? Let&#8217;s take a look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Taste<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although you wouldn&#8217;t necessarily consume masala on its own, we&#8217;re going to talk about the taste of each.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The taste of a curry will depend on what ingredients are in the recipe. A chicken curry\u00a0with chilies and peppers is going to taste different from a potato curry with coconut milk and cashew nuts.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, now that we know masala is a spice mix, we can all agree that it&#8217;s going to taste, well, spicy!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alienrecipes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Difference-Between-Masala-And-Curry.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4650\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are roughly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mccormickscienceinstitute.com\/resources\/culinary-spices#:~:text=There%20are%20roughly%2040%20different%20spice%20%28and%20herb%29,from%20%28Table%202%29%2C%20or%20botanical%20classification%20%28taxonomy%29%20%283%29.\">40 spices<\/a> that are the most commonly used around the world. So it&#8217;s no wonder that there are also different types of masala, each made up of a different spice blend. Let&#8217;s take a look at some of the spices that may be included in a masala.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Cumin seeds<\/li><li>Bay leaves&nbsp;<\/li><li>Cinnamon&nbsp;<\/li><li>Black cardamom&nbsp;<\/li><li>Cloves<\/li><li>Turmeric&nbsp;<\/li><li>Black pepper&nbsp;<\/li><li>Coriander seeds&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to go wrong with a curry as all you have to do is throw vegetables, meat (or fish), and some spices into a pot, and voila, you have a meal! Curry is the perfect dish to make if you&#8217;ve never seen a kitchen and you have an impending dinner party. You can thank us later.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Color&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to curry, the finished product can have a variety of colors. Tomato based curries will often be red or orange, whereas those with added coconut milk may have a lighter, more yellow color. It is clear to see why it is so popular as using it in cooking would have been a way to keep warm.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since its creation, garam masala and its good name was brought to different areas of the globe and is now loved and enjoyed by many.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is thought that curries were first recognized in the 15th century when India was under Portuguese rule. This led to a cooking fusion of cultures which ultimately led to a new range of exotic dishes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Chana Masala Recipe<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>2 tsp cooking oil or ghee\u00a0<\/li><li>1\u00a0tsp\u00a0cumin seeds<\/li><li>1 medium onion, finely chopped<\/li><li>4 garlic cloves (minced)<\/li><li>1 inch fresh ginger (grated)<\/li><li>1 green chili pepper<\/li><li>2\u00a0tsp\u00a0paprika powder<\/li><li>1\u00a0tsp\u00a0cumin powder<\/li><li>1 tsp coriander powder<\/li><li>1\/2\u00a0tsp\u00a0turmeric powder<\/li><li>1 tsp red chili powder<\/li><li>400g fresh tomatoes<\/li><li>2 cans chickpeas<\/li><li>1 tsp salt<\/li><li>Splash of cream (optional)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alienrecipes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Chana-Masala-Recipe.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4651\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Method<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Heat the cooking oil, or ghee, in a pan over medium heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Add the onion and cumin seeds, and saute for 5 minutes or until golden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, add the ginger, garlic, and chopped green chili pepper.
